Dove gray branches against a pearl gray sky
The world is rounded and soft like a woman
I wish for some of that softness in my heart
If only my heart were quiet as the falling snow
I see the boughs of the trees as they bend
Dipping down to earth in utter weariness
My head bows too as fatigue gathers on me
Swiftly and silently it does its secret work
The snow embraces the earth like a lover
He eases himself down upon her breast
Fills her every crease and every hollow
Until the two become one in an ancient union
I lay down and wait in mute submission
The wind like a cold breath rakes my skin
My face is brushed by a hundred icy kisses
Silvery cool kisses on my purpled lips
